The Manta community in Bangladesh is a nomadic group of boat-dwelling fishers who live entirely on rivers in the southern coastal regions. Displaced by river erosion, they have no land, legal identity, or access to education and healthcare. Living on boats for generations, they survive by fishing but face severe climate risks, social exclusion, and poverty. On May 10 2025 around 15 individuals from the activist group "Ostatnie Pokolenie" ("Last Generation") staged a traffic blockade on Grota-Roweckiego Bridge marking the fifth consecutive day of similar actions across the city. Demonstrators glued themselves to the roadway using industrial-strength adhesives temporarily halting vehicle flow and drawing police intervention. The protest aimed to raise awareness of regional transportation issues. Isolated incidents of tension were reported during the event including verbal altercations and a civilian using pepper spray. The group has stated it will continue the campaign throughout May.
