On the afternoon of the 3rd of January, during the ceremonial start of the Polish presidency in the EU, Polish farmers and other agricultural workers gather in Warsaw to protest. As Ursula von der Leyen visits Poland for the Opening Gala celebration at the National Theatre, the protestors meet at the European Commission building and march through the streets to the theatre. The protestors have 5 demands: To stop food imports from the Mercosur countries, to stop the Green Deal, to stop imports from Ukraine, to stop the destruction of Polish forests and hunting, and to stop the extinction of the Polish economy. A number of recognisable figures speak at the event, most notably, the presidential candidate for the Law and Justice Party, Karol Nawrocki.
