Gaza's health ministry said the bombardment killed more than 400 people in Gaza, a territory ruled by Hamas. The death toll does not differentiate between civilians and combatants. Protestors flood Times Square for Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student arrested by ICE at his home and sent to a detention center for deportation although he is a legal resident and holds a Green Card in the US.

Protesters gathered in Times Square to demand Mahmoud Khalil be set free. Khalil, a pro-Palestinian activist who played a prominent role in the Columbia University student protests in spring of 2024, was detained by ICE on March 9th for allegedly leading “activities aligned with Hamas, a designated terrorist organization.” Prompting nationwide outrage & bringing Freedom of Speech into question.After the rally protesters took to the street and Marched up top Columbus Circle for a second rally.

Demonstrators in Manhattan, New York City condemned the Trump administration for the arrest and planned deportation of Mahmoud Khalil. Khalil, a recent Columbia University graduate, was one of the leading demonstrators during last year’s pro-Palestine protests at the university. Last Saturday, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, arrested Khalil who is currently in ICE detention in Louisiana. On Monday, a federal judge temporarily blocked Khalil’s deportation as the deportation is being challenged in court. The Trump administration issued Khalil a notice to appear for an immigration court hearing on March 27 regarding his deportation.

The unofficial grassroots protest was sparked by a flyer posted by the 50501 movement and discovered online by veterans across the United States. Veteran marches also took place in Washington, D.C., and at other state capitols across the country.
