In an event that was modeled after the celebrations on the Rio Vermelho in Salvador, Bahia, Cariocas honored Iemanjá, the west-African goddess of the sea. The festival praised Brazil's most well-known deity with jongo, afoxé, samba, and maracatu music and dances, uniting centennial traditions from both communities, Umbanda and Candomblé. The event was held in Arpoador, Rio de Janeiro, for the first time, idealized by the musician Marcos André.
