Lady In Blue, a bronze and blue sculpture by New York artist Tschabalala Self, has been unveiled on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, London. Inspired by the idea of a contemporary “everywoman”, the sculpture depicts a young metropolitan woman walking forward with ambition and purpose. The figure is patinated using pigment refined from lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone used by artists for centuries. Lady In Blue is the 16th artwork to occupy the Fourth Plinth since the commissioning programme began in 1998.
