Eritrea - nicknamed "Africa's North Korea" - has experienced an exodus in recent years. Along the Sudanese border, tens of thousands of Eritreans are living in limbo after escaping oppression and mandatory, indefinite military service. Yet, the camps are unguarded and refugees say they feel vulnerable to kidnapping or retaliation attacks. Many dream of paying a smuggler to take them to Libya, and on towards Europe.
