Aliaksandr Milinkevich was a Belarusian politician and public figure. He was the united democratic opposition candidate in the 2006 presidential election and received the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize. He died in exile in Poland on 11 August 2026, aged 79, after a long illness and complications following surgery. He will be buried at Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw, as he cannot be buried in Belarus.
