On 12 August 2026, people gathered on the pier in Brzeźno to watch a partial solar eclipse. It was one of the most spectacular astronomical phenomena of recent years, with the Moon obscuring as much as 82 per cent of the Sun’s disc in Gdańsk. The seaside and the pier in Brzeźno became the main viewing point in Gdańsk. The wide expanse of the beach allowed people to admire the spectacle without any problems, as the Sun was very low above the western horizon at the peak of the eclipse. The event attracted thousands of locals and tourists to Brzeźno Beach. The pier was completely blocked by a crowd of people equipped with special sunglasses with ISO 12312-2 filters, film and cameras.
