On July 13 each year, ‘Martyrs’ Day’ is observed in Jammu and Kashmir in remembrance of 22 Muslims killed by Dogra forces in 1931.
A tightly enforced partial lockdown was imposed in central Srinagar as authorities sealed roads leading to the Martyrs' Graveyard to prevent gatherings on Kashmir Martyrs' Day. The restrictions blocked political leaders, activists and the public from reaching the historic cemetery, where annual tributes have traditionally been paid to those killed during the July 13, 1931 uprising.
