11 July marked the 83rd anniversary of the Volhynia Massacre. This was ‘Bloody Sunday’, now recognised as the historical peak of the genocide in Volhynia. In July 1943, units of the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) attacked Polish villages. It is estimated that between 1943 and 1945, over 100,000 Poles were killed at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists. To mark this occasion, a march organised by the Confederation took place today. The route of the Gdańsk march commemorating the victims of the Volhynia massacre led from St Catherine’s Church directly to the Monument to the Memory of the Victims of the Extermination of the Polish Population in Volhynia.
