Animal Rights Protest in Izmir, Turkey by Murat Kocabas / SOPA Images
Animal rights activists gathered outside the Izmir Governor's Office to protest the implementation of Turkey's law on stray animals and local authorities' efforts to round up stray dogs. Police blocked access to the governor's office with barricades, preventing demonstrators from reaching the building. Protesters then staged a sit-in, calling for an end to the roundup of stray animals and condemning what they described as poor conditions and inhumane treatment in municipal shelters.
