Villa d'Este in Tivoli is one of the symbols of the Italian Renaissance, an architectural and scenic jewel located a few kilometers from Rome in a lush, green area. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was commissioned in 1550 by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este. Designed by architect Pirro Ligorio, the villa is famous for its impressive hydraulic system and monumental fountains. It is open to the public free of charge on June 2nd, the Italian Republic Day.
