The Samaritans are descended from the ancient Israelite tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim, but they separated from mainstream Judaism 2,800 years ago. Today, the remaining 700 Samaritans live in the Palestinian city of Nablus in the West Bank and the Israeli coastal city of Holon, south of Tel Aviv.
