According to Ahmed al-Asadi, head of the mass grave excavation team, three mass graves have been opened in the al-Haramat and Mushairifa neighborhoods, west of Mosul, containing the remains of dozens of victims killed during ISIS control of the city. The victims include members of Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Iraqi security forces and Yazidi civilians, among them women and children. He added that since the liberation of Nineveh province in northern Iraq, around 100 mass graves have been opened, while approximately 20 additional sites containing mass graves remain unexcavated.
