A pair of goshawks (Accipiter gentilis) have settled in a St. Petersburg city park and begun nesting. The arrival of these largest raptors indicates a healthy ecosystem and abundant food in the city. Goshawks are distinguished by their striped chests, bright yellow eyes, and their masterful maneuvering between buildings at high speeds. According to scientific data, nesting densities of these birds in large cities are now higher than in the wild, as they have virtually no natural predators within urban areas, other than the eagle owl.
