The attack followed the killing of a Jewish shepherd from the settlement of Elon Moreh. Violence is escalating between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in areas under the control of the Palestinian Authority headed by Mahmoud Abbas whose territory in the West Bank Israel seeks to annex.
