RAF Lakenheath has been being used for transiting planes on their way to war. Over 100 fighter jets have left RAF Lakenheath for the Middle East since January according to Lakenheath Alliance for Peace. At least one F-15 jet from Lakenheath was reportedly among those which crashed in Kuwait at the beginning of the war. The major US air base in Suffolk hosts the United States Air Force Europe 48th fighter wing (Liberty Wing).
