Protest for the "Social NO" in Rome by Maria Giulia Molinaro Vitale / SOPA Images
On March 14th (No Meloni Day) around 10.000 people gathered in Rome to protest against different things that are in the centre of the debate in Italy: the war in Middle East, the threats this government is posing for freedom of speech (both of people and of media), and to support the “no” at the referendum of the justice system. All these fights together are being called “no sociale” (“social no”). The political opposition to the neofascist government is getting stronger than ever with the pro-Sì side that is openly supporting the justice system reform to “get rid of magistrates” (as a member of the Ministry of Justice said). The biggest critique the No-side is moving is that a democracy, to be called as such, must have the three fundamental powers separated, and with this reform the judiciary power will be too controllable by the government. Mainstream right media is starting to call the No Sociale a “terrorist group” to criminalise the activism. About the war, most of the people in the gathering were against the imperial aggression of Iran. Same thing for Cuba.
