Turkish historian and academic İlber Ortaylı passed away at the age of 79. Known for his work on Ottoman and Turkish history, Ortaylı taught at universities for many years and published numerous books. Ortaylı, who had been receiving treatment for health issues for some time, passed away, causing great sadness in academic and cultural circles. Following the funeral service held for Ortaylı, his body was laid to rest at the cemetery of Fatih Mosque.
