Demonstration for the Right to Housing in Vitry Sur Seine, Paris by Telmo Pinto / SOPA Images
In Val-de-Marne, as elsewhere, the property market benefits speculators, and tenants in precarious situations pay the price. Low-income households struggle to find housing and are suffocating in apartments that are too expensive, too small and often unsanitary. Administrative precariousness blocks any access to decent long-term housing. Rents are rising inexorably, and evictions of precarious tenants and squatters are increasing year after year. Dozens of persons gathered to demonstrate for housing right in front of the Vitry Sur Seine City Hall, in the outskirts of Paris.
