Monument to Alexander II in Odessa, Ukraine by Viacheslav Onyshchenko / SOPA Images
Unknown persons broke a commemorative plaque and imperial coat of arms from the monument to the Russian Emperor Alexander II. The column is among the monuments that fall under the Ukrainian law on decommunization and decolonization. In 2026, it was excluded from the state register of monuments, which opened the way for its possible demolition. The Alexander Column in the park of the same name (now the Taras Shevchenko Central Park of Culture and Recreation) was built in 1891 in honor of the Russian Emperor Alexander II.
