The gospel samba group Batucada Abençoada, founded in 2006 by the neo-Pentecostal church Bola de Neve in São Paulo, performed in front of the Maracana soccer stadium during the Rio carnival. In Brazil, evangelicals have made their way into samba, a musical genre once decried by the Church for its profane lyrics and the syncretism of its Afro-Brazilian origins.
