The historic Amira Kadal was originally built in the eighteenth century during Afghan rule and has opened to the public after nearly two years of restoration work as part of efforts to modernize urban infrastructure while preserving historic assets. The bridge will serve as a pedestrian only crossing built at a cost of about $870,000, with its original foundations retained. Officials said the project is intended to enhance public movement and promote heritage aesthetics along the Jhelum riverfront while safeguarding the bridge’s historical character.
