A counter-protest organised by members of the trade union Unison took place outside The Castle Leisure Centre in London, alongside trans rights activists, as they responded to a women’s protest over the banning of gym user Miranda Newsom from the council-run facility. Unison members and trans rights campaigners demonstrated in support of trans inclusion policies in public services, holding placards and chanting in defence of transgender rights and equality. The counter-demonstration unfolded at the same time as the women’s protest, with police present as opposing groups gathered in separate areas outside the leisure centre, underscoring ongoing national tensions over gender identity, single-sex spaces, and council policy.
