Iranian Regime change protest Manchester, UK by Gary Roberts / SOPA Images
A large pro-Iranian regime change demonstration, of in excess of 1000 people, supporting ongoing anti-regime protests within Iran. Many participants held portraits of Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last Shah. Simultaneously, the Central library in St Peter’s Square became the site of a tense standoff between a small gathering representing the far-right group Prioritise Britain. This demonstration centered on nationalist themes and "remigration". A counter-protest of approximately 300 anti-fascist demonstrators was organized by Manchester Stand Up to Racism and local socialist collectives. The anti-fascist protesters occupied the square with banners and chants of "refugees are welcome here". A heavy police presence was deployed to keep the factions separated.
