The 34th Kam Tin Jiao Festival is a once-in-a-decade celebration in Kam Tin Heung. It took place from 13rd Dec to 19th Dec. Originated in 1685, this tradition is organized by the Tang clan to commemorate officials who allowed displaced villagers to return to their homeland. The massive bamboo theatre which serves as the centre stage of the festival is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest temporary bamboo altar.
The taoist festival also encompass a wide range of traditional activities including the procession of the deity ghost king, blessing ceremonies, Cantonese opera performances, dragon and lion dances, and communal vegetarian feasts for villagers.
