The Metro Tunnel officially opens to the public on 30 November 2025, marking one of Victoria’s largest transport upgrades in decades. The project delivers five new underground stations—Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall, and Anzac—connecting key areas across Melbourne’s CBD and inner suburbs. The new tunnel separates the Sunbury and Cranbourne/Pakenham lines from the City Loop to increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve reliability across the network. Opening day sees trains running through the new route for the first time, with passengers exploring the modern stations, upgraded platforms, and redesigned interchange connections.
