The Yangchan Tulou cluster in Huangshan, China - 15 Nov 2025 by Sheldon Cooper / SOPA Images
Yangchan Tulou is a unique earthen building complex located in Yangchan Village Shendu Town, Anhui Province. Unlike the traditional Huizhou-style buildings with white walls and black tiles, Yangchan Tulou is built with local materials using bluestones as the foundation and yellow soil for the walls. The buildings are mostly three stories high and are arranged in a dense and orderly manner on the mountainside. It is the largest and best-preserved earthen building complex and also a wonderful work of Huizhou architecture with great historical and cultural value.
