Several collectives have called for a demonstration in rejection of the new Portuguese government regulation prohibiting women from wearing burqas in public spaces. With the slogan “We are not afraid!”, the organizers defend freedom of choice and condemn the advance of far-right policies. Demonstrations also seek to highlight social problems such as poor wages, homelessness, and growing inequality, calling for a free, equal, and fearless society.
