The expulsion of Abdullah Ocalan, leader of the armed Kurdish organization Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), from Syria on October 9, 1988, was protested in the Turkish city of Diyarbakir with a march and press statement organized by the Amed Democratic Institutions Platform. Ocalan was captured in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on February 16, 1999, and extradited to Turkey. He has been imprisoned in Turkey for 27 years.
