At the end of the 14th century, the three brothers from Nijmegen were the founders of Dutch painting. Far ahead of their time, their realistic depictions of castles, nobles, and peasants affect the impressions of the Middle Ages. During the Van Lymborch brothers' Festival, people paraded dressed as characters from the brothers' famous paintings.
