Polish far-right marches against immigration while antifascists organise a counter-protest by Neil Milton / SOPA Images
On the afternoon of Sunday, 24th of August, supporters of far-right, openly antisemitic Polish politician Grzegorz Braun and his political party, the Confederation of the Polish Crown, gather in Warsaw to march to stop the so-called "immigrant invasion". Beginning at the statue of former Prime Minister Wincenty Witos, the protesters march to the Presidential Palace to picket. Waiting not far from the Presidential Palace is a counter-protest led by several antifascist groups who hold placards, chant, and argue that Poland is for everyone. Since the campaign to elect the new right-wing President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, anti-immigration sentiment has increased, often through exaggerated claims of an invasion of immigrants across the Ukrainian and German borders.
