The abandoned Ghost Ship hotel of Koh Chang Island known as the Galaxy and owned by Thai land magnate Oran Asawaritthikul was a seven-storey luxury ship hotel with around 200 rooms. Opened around 2004 as the centerpiece of the upscale Koh Chang Grand Lagoona Resort. The resort closed around 2016 due to economic challenges and legal issues while the ship’s eerie, haunting allure turned it into a popular urban-exploration site. In December 2024, a fire fueled by winds and the wooden structure destroyed much of the ship. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined. With the remaining structure deemed unsafe, the upper floors were dismantled by mid-2025 and sold for scrap.
