Saba Saba Day (7/7) is commemorated annually on July 7 to mark the 1990 pro-democracy protests that demanded an end to one party rule under President Daniel Arap Moi and a return to multi-party democracy. This year’s commemorations come amidst growing public outcry over extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and a crackdown on dissent. In the protest today, seven people have been reported dead.
