Lavender cultivation has grown in popularity across the Himalayan region in recent years offering farmers a sustainable alternative to traditional crops. The aromatic plant valued for its essential oils used in soaps, perfumes and cosmetics is part of a government-backed initiative aimed at boosting rural livelihoods and promoting Agri-tourism in the picturesque valley. The region’s moderate climate and fertile soil make it ideal for lavender cultivation in the central and southern districts as well as the Chenab Valley. The crop is grown in neat rows and harvested by hand. The vibrant purple blossoms not only enhance the scenic beauty of the landscape but are also drawing increasing interest in both domestic and international markets.
