On the 12th anniversary of the 2013 Gezi Park protests, left-wing university students organized a march. On May 31st of 2013, the government intervened in the Gezi Park in Taksim Square in Istanbul and wanted to demolish it. However, there was a massive anti-government uprising. People have died in police crackdowns. The protests spread almost all over Turkey. Until June 16, the protests continued unabated. This was a very important turning point in recent Turkish history. It was a reaction to the system in Turkey rather than the cutting down of trees in the park. For this reason, every May 31st people organize protests to commemorate the Gezi Park protests.
