A sculptor named Akram Saffan, who escaped from the hands of ISIS from the Syrian city of Deir al-Zor about 10 years ago, is living in very difficult conditions in the Turkish city of Sanliurfa in the basement of a primitive two-story house. Akram's mother and sister died in the war in Syria. He was also arrested and tortured by ISIS because of his paintings and sculptures. Akram describes the sufferings of the Syrian people and the horror of the war in his sculptures.
