The Himalayan region of Kashmir is experiencing an unusual heatwave in May, with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recording its highest temperature in the past 57 years at 34.4 degrees Celsius (93.92 degrees Fahrenheit), the third highest ever for the month. The local weather office has predicted an isolated heatwave across the region, stating that generally hot and dry weather is expected until May 26. Meanwhile, authorities have announced a change in school timings to help students cope with the extreme weather. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.
