Thousands of Bangladeshi people celebrate the first day of the Bengali New Year, known as Pohela Boishakh, with colorful rallies, and cultural programs featuring traditional dance and music. This Bengali year was introduced during the regime of Emperor Akbar to facilitate revenue collection in the 16th century. A new mode marks the traditional pageantry this time as the Bengali New Year is being celebrated today in Bangladesh with the iconic Mongal Shobhajatra replaced with Barshaboran Ananda Sobhajatra.
