More than 300 Yazidi volunteers participate annually in the olive harvest in November and December and in the olive pressing process at the beginning of April from the Lalish Temple orchard which contains approximately 750 olive trees. Yazidis use the ancient traditional method of pressing with their feet and the oil is used to light the 365 sacred lamps in the temple daily numbered according to the days of the year as well as during other religious occasions such as the Yazidi New Year.
