Protest Against Chinese Mega-Embassy In London, UK by Martin Pope / SOPA Images
Protesters take to the streets to demonstrate against plans for a Chinese super-embassy at the former site of the Royal Mint. The Chinese have submitted plans to turn 2 hectares of land at Royal Mint Court into the largest embassy in Europe. The plans were originally turned down by Tower Hamlets council as they believed the site could not support mass demonstrations, a view supported by the Metropolitan Police. Both groups seem to have relented since the Labour government came to power. The protest today numbering over a thousand supported by Uyghurs, Tibetans, Hong Kongers, Chinese dissidents and some British MP's looks to prove the unsuitability of the site.
