On the first Saturday after November 11th, the red-and-white-clad Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) arrives in several Dutch cities. In Nijmegen, Sinterklaas entered by following a route through the city center accompanied by his helpers, the Pieten (Peters), who gave traditional candies to children and adults.
