The emergence of digital technology in Benin has accelerated the closure of movie theaters. The country's last cinemas have been transformed into cafés, places of worship and gyms. By 2022, only one cinema owned by the French billionaire businessman Vincent Bolloré was still operating: the Canal Olympia, located in the capital city of Cotonou.
