Kenyan Senators voted on October 17th 2024 to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office despite his failure to testify at his impeachment trial after his lawyer reported he had been taken to hospital. President William Ruto has already nominated Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki to become the deputy president of Kenya.
