The Cemetery of the Nameless in Vienna, Austria by Attila Husejnow / SOPA Images
The Cemetery of the Nameless - Friedhof der Namenlosen, is located at the on the outskirts of Vienna next to the Alberner Harbor - nearby the junction of the Danube Canal and the Danube itself. In the past, the Danube used to wash up the bodies of people who had drowned or been murdered here because of a water vortex. Many of them remained unidentified - nameless (namenlos in german). Buried here are people who were washed up by the Danube between 1840 and 1940. The course of the Danube has changed since then, and corpses are no longer washed up here. The inclusion of the romantic and sad setting in the popular film "Before Sunrise" has meant that fans of the film often make a trip out to this spot.
