April 25, 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of a revolution led by the military and supported by the Portuguese people to overthrow the dictatorial regime of the Estado Novo, which became known as the Carnation Revolution. On April 25, 1974, democracy was restored and since then this 'Freedom Day' has been marked as a national holiday in Portugal.
