The festival is being held for the second year in a row since it stopped for two decades after 2003 due to the US invasion on Iraq. Spring celebrations go back to the era of the Assyrians, who celebrated the spring season and the beginning of the Assyrian year Akitu. The beginning of this festival in Mosul was in 1969 AD.
