The reappointment of Abdullah Zeydan, a member of the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti), who was not given an election certificate despite winning the Metropolitan Municipality Mayorship in Van, where Kurds live heavily, was celebrated with a rally and concert held in Diyarbakir after Van. The Electoral Board's decision caused major protests both in the Kurdish region and in cities such as Istanbul and Izmir.
