Bogotá wore purple on 8 March, International Women's Day, in a massive march calling for equality, justice and an end to violence against women. Thousands of women of all ages, social classes and backgrounds united in one voice to demand real change in society. Colombia ranks fifth in Latin America in the rate of femicides per 100,000 women. According to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in 2023 more than four thousand femicides were registered in the region.
