The trooper, identified as Christopher Gadd, aged 27, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Gadd, who had served with the State Patrol for 2.5 years, was stationed in Marysville.
The collision, which occurred near 136th Street Northeast just before 3 a.m., prompted an immediate response from Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies. The trooper, identified as Christopher Gadd, aged 27, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Gadd, who had served with the State Patrol for 2.5 years, was stationed in Marysville.
According to authorities, the trooper was parked on the right shoulder when a motorist driving at a high speed collided with the back of the patrol car. Subsequently, a van also crashed into the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect and the van's driver were hospitalized, while fortunately, five passengers in the van emerged unharmed from the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as a 32-year-old Lynnwood man, who has been detained and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide. A judge has approved a search warrant to test a sample of his blood.
In the wake of the accident, all lanes on I-5 southbound near the scene were temporarily closed, causing significant disruptions in traffic. However, normalcy returned around noon as the freeway was cleared for traff
